Animal protection law
The situation of animals in Romania is very uncertain. Very often animals are victims of horrifying acts of violence and the sad thing is that nobody can do anything about it. That is because there is no coherent legislation that can protect them and punish those who inflict any pain and suffering upon these beings.
By delaying to adopt The Animal Protection
Law the state is as responsible for any abuse of the animals as those who
actually participate at these kind of acts. The state has also the obligation to
encourage through law respect for any form of life. By adopting such a law the
state educates the people as to their legal responsibilities towards animals.
Romania was among the first European
countries that have adopted The Animal Protection Law in 1935, which was
later repealed by the communist regime.
The absence of legislation that can
improve the situation of animals is a huge flaw for a country that aspires at
the statute of a civilized and tolerant society. Not to mention the image of
Romania which suffers a lot because of lack of any legislation that refers to
animal welfare.
The necessity
of adopting this law is obvious. It is very important though that all the
necessary measures to be taken as fast as possible. Each day the adoption of
this law is postponed one more animal suffers; one more animal is neglected or
abused.
